Sonnenwagen Aachen – On course for success with FORMAT tools
Sonnenwagen Aachen is an interdisciplinary team of students from RWTH Aachen University and Aachen University of Applied Sciences. With passion and technical expertise, the team develops an innovative solar car every two years that is powered exclusively by solar energy. The aim is to research sustainable mobility solutions and compete against the world’s best university teams in international competitions such as the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia.
Challenge
Developing, designing and building a completely new solar car within a year presents the team with major challenges every year. Maximum precision, lightweight materials and well-thought-out manufacturing steps are required to create a vehicle that is not only efficient but also competitive. Every move must be precise and every component must fit perfectly.
Solution
In order to meet the high manufacturing requirements, the project specifically relies on the benefits of high-quality FORMAT tools. The precision torque wrench (EAN: 4317784638630) ensured controlled screw tightening in the low torque range, especially when installing various components – quickly, safely and with maximum repeat accuracy. The FORMAT cutting disc (EAN: 4317784239837) was used to cut brackets and thin-walled stainless steel profiles, enabling precise cuts with minimal material loss thanks to a special corundum mixture. The twist drill set (EAN: 4317784116763) was used to drill precise holes in aluminium, plastic and steel. It guarantees clean, burr-free holes for fastenings and mounting points. This enabled the team to work efficiently and precisely and meet the high demands of the project.
Advantages
Thanks to the high-quality equipment and the commitment of the entire team, a fully functional solar car was put on the road – ready for international competition. FORMAT tools made a decisive contribution to turning the vision of sustainable mobility into reality. We are proud to be part of this forward-looking project!
